What is Carb Conscious?

Scour the web and you'll find many terms related to reduced carb eating. Ketogenic (keto), low carb, low carb high fat (LCHF), fat fasting, intermittent fasting and carb cycling are a few. So just what do we mean by carb conscious?

The standard American diet contains anywhere from 225 to 325 grams of carbohydrates a day, so anywhere under 100 we consider a win. To accomplish this, sometimes we employ intermittent fasting. This practice allows for a main meal with moderate carbs while still keeping the daily total in the low carb range. If we go on a long hike, we may carb cycle that day. We pay attention to carbs and regulate them according to our activity level, but we're not afraid to eat healthy carbs. All our recipes are tagged with one of the following carb content categories:

Keto - up to 20 grams / day
Low - 21 to 50 grams / day
Moderate - 51 to 100 grams / day
Cycle - 33 to 50 grams / meal

Each recipe displays nutrition facts so you know how many carbs are in a serving. We base category assignments on net carbs (total carbs - fiber) being up to 1/3 of the top grams per day for each category. Occasionally you may find a higher count recipe labeled "cycle". These recipes work well on two-meal days or when at least one meal is near zero carbs (bacon and eggs, for instance).

The nutrition facts also help those who track all their macros so they can easily calculate their daily totals. Knowing the numbers empowers you to make good choices for your health and design a diet that helps you thrive. We consider it our privilege to be part of your journey.
